The fourth grade science program aligns with the NYC Department of Education and Next Generation Science Standards. In the program, students strengthen their practice with the scientific method by testing hypotheses through experimentation in order to collect data to make a scientific conclusion. Students work in small groups to collaborate in careful observation, research, accurate measurement, and recording of data in their journals. Students participate in classroom discussions to share their conclusions based on evidence from their data collection. Students will also have the opportunity in project based learning where they will learn to work with others to critically problem solve.
Students have science three times during the 10-day cycle. The class is 45 minutes long.
