In second grade Art with Andrea Aimi, students will study the work of watercolorist Charles Burchfield. They will create paintings about the four seasons and add collage for details. They will do some printmaking and will look at carved wood block block examples from India. They will make two color prints with a carved piece of balsa wood and make a class tapestry. Students will build a hand puppet and learn about the Bread and Puppet theater group from Vermont. They will write biographies about their puppet and will read them to the class as a performance.

In second grade Shop with Isabel Dominguez, students will deepen their understanding of sculptural forms. Students will explore and create artworks using wire, cardboard, found objects and wood. In addition to using the woodworking tools that they used in the previous years, second graders will be introduced to the coping saw in order to cut circular forms. The emphasis of shop in second grade is movement and form. Students will experiment with the idea of assembling sculptures, which can move in space.
