Second grade is exploring various genres and styles of music, while continuing their musical literacy. Students warm up their voices through song and story, while creating characters and answering questions within that musical context. Students are reading quarter, eighth, half, and sixteenth note rhythms, and perform syncopated rhythms. Students aurally differentiate differences in music such as major/minor, forte/piano, high/low, and staccato/legato. Students use these terms to create their own musical identity for choosing what music they want to listen to.
