First grade is taking our musical fundamentals, and infusing them into performance! Students warm up their voices through song and story, while creating characters and answering questions within that musical context. Students are reading quarter, eighth, half, and sixteenth note rhythms, while beginning to perform syncopated rhythms. Students aurally differentiate differences in music such as major/minor, forte/piano, high/low, and staccato/legato. Students use these terms to create their own musical identity for choosing what music they want to listen to.
Students listen to and perform music that coincides with our cultural history month celebrations!
Students begin to explore un-pitches percussion and instruments, and read notes on the staff, while performing on xylophones!
