Eminem turned 40 on October 17, 2012. Marshall Bruce Mathers III, Eminem, has made millions on his albums and tours. Is he getting too old for the rap scene? Eminem has been ranked as on of the greatest artist of all time by such magazines as the Rolling Stone magazine who ranked him 82nd on the top 100s list. He has also been called the King of Hip Hop. He has achieved ten #1 albums on the Billboard 200 and has sold an greater than 100 million albums worldwide. Eminem’s career skyrocketed with his major debut album, the Slim Shady LP. His first album, the Slim Shady LP, his second, Marshall Mathers LP, and third, The Eminem Show all won Grammys. Eminem is the first artist to win Best Rap Album for three consecutive LPs. He released his first real album sin 2004, Relapse, on May 15, 2009. A year later Eminem released his next hot album, Recovery, which achieved the title best selling album worldwide of 2010.
Eminem was criticized for his obscene lyrics and use of derogatory words. He was constantly called homophobic because of his use of many derogatory terms for homosexuals. When asked if he didn’t like gay people, he replied “No, I don’t have any problem with nobody. You know what I mean? I’m just like whatever.”
Eminem is, in fact, friends with singer Elton John, an open gay singer, he even publicly supports gay rights. He even commented on the legalization of gay marriage saying, “I think if two people love each other, then what the heck? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.”
Eminem was married to Kim Anne Scott, his high school sweatheart, and has three daughters, Hailie, Lainie, and Whitney. He’s written many songs about them, including, “Mockingbird”. Eminem and Kim had had an on and off relationship filled with scandals. After their second divorce they split up with shared custody of Hailie.
Eminem has had many legal troubles including a $10 million lawsuit by his mother for slanderous lyrics in his songs about her, she won $1,600 in the end. He was arrested in 2003, for pulling out an unloaded gun. His wife also attempted suicide after she had heard the song “Kim” on stage.
After such a long life, is Eminem finally too old to be a rapper anymore? Will he retire or continue his rapping career, filled to the brim with scandals, until he dies?
