I recently saw A Christmas Story and was very delighted with it. Darren McGavin, who plays the father also known as The Old Man, is outright hilarious. There are very entertaining quickies, or fast jokes every line or two. Peter Billingsley, who plays the lead Ralphie, looks like a young version of Carl from UP. There is hilarious santa scene with evil elves at the mall. And most of all, it puts you in a wonderful winter mood.
I do have some precautions about this show. They do use a lot of curses including the F word, and many others. There is a fair amount of slapstick comedy. There is some gender prejudice and racism. There is a great deal of RISQUE material. There is a naughty lamp that the Old Man is always fawning over. Over all this musical is best for ages 11+. So it is better for older families. It will definitely keep you in stitches. A Christmas Story is perfect for this winter.
