Book Reviews

This book keeps you Chained to it, it’s a page-turner (see what I did there ;))

Chained is a great book, about a boy and an elephant. It starts in a small village with a boy named Hastin, his mother, and his sick sister Chanda. Chanda has malaria, but they don’t have money for a doctor. Hastin’s mother hears of a man called Raju Sharma, who can pay for the doctor, but Hastin and Chanda’s mother will have to leave and work for Raju as a maid for a long time, the hospital fee is four thousand rupees. So the mother goes to work for this man and Hastin is stuck at home. Then his neighbor takes him to visit his mother, they meet her and leave to go to the market. Hastin runs off and meets a boy selling tea, Hastin wants a job, so he asks the boy selling tea and the boy sets Hastin up with a man making a circus. The man is called Timir and he needs someone to look after an elephant. Hastin agrees to being paid five thousand rupees and goes with Timir deep into the jungle. Timir has a trap set for an elephant, but what will happen when one is finally caught? If you want to find out, read the book! You can find it in the library, on amazon, or in a bookstore. I recommend this book to anyone in 5th grade or above. This book has adventure, friendship, and family.

Lynne Kelly said that she was inspired to write Chained when she heard a story about a boy and an elephant in a circus, she will be writing another book. The main character will be Nessie MaGee, along with mythical creatures of types and a mystery.
