Eighth Grade Poetry!

Hi guys! In English class we eighth graders have been starting work on poetry. Mr. Byrne is having us discuss various writing mechanisms and when they do or do not work. In fact, most of our examples of poetic language come from previous students, so when you get to seventh/eighth grade and have Mr. Byrne, you should try to impress him with your poetic prowess so that future generations will hear and discuss your brilliant writing! Here are some of the examples we’ve heard:
“On the chessboard of life, even the mightiest queens can’t win without some help from the pawns.”
“His love life was like a unicorn–nonexistent.”
“Life is a bowl of cherries, but I get the pits.”
“Catlike, carsick crabs cannot crawl to Khartoum.”
Soon we’ll be writing our own poems, and if you keep checking the Blog, you might even see some here…
