The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a sci-fi action drama about the 74th Annual Hunger Games winners, Katniss Everdeen (Jenniffer Lawrence) and her fellow tribute, Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson). As they travel through the 12 districts on their Victor’s Tour, they sense a rebellion emerging. President Snow (Donald Sutherland) also senses this, and to show that he is still in power, he begins to warn Katniss that she and Peeta must pretend to be in love so that the districts believe that what Katniss and Peeta did at the end of the last Hunger Games was an act of love, not rebellion. After feeling not satisfied with Katnis and Peeta’s performance, he feels he must kill Katniss, and sets out on doing it by creating a special 75th Annual Hunger Games, The Quarter Quell. In this special Huger Games, President Snow makes it so that previous victors must compete against each other until one stands.
I, personally, loved this movie, even though there were some flaws. When the movie first started, I was intrigued by seeing Katniss’ and Peeta’s tour through the 12 districts, but I soon felt that they were dragging out the beginning of the movie too long and I was constantly wondering when the actual Hunger Games would start. But, once they did start, the movie was exciting, action-packed, and full of the amazingly thought-out arena that we know and love.
You should definitely see this movie, but if you haven’t read the book, try to read it first because you can compare the movie to the book and it’s interesting seeing the similarities and differences. Compared to the book, I think they did a very good job of portraying the characters, plot, and the arena. This is definitely a must-see and I highly recommend it.
