Hello! I am reporting from the Board Games choice for Choices for the 7th and 8th Grades, documenting a game of chess between Henry Lieber and Jordyn Smalls.
If you don’t know how to play chess, you have a collection of pieces that can move in different ways. If the opponent moves over one of your pieces, he or she can take it off of the board. The game is over once the king is checked.
It starts with Jordyn moving the knight to the middle of the board. Henry then thinks he got a check mate, but Jordyn then takes his queen! Henry is missing several pieces that may be essential to his survival. Henry’s bishop is then taken!
The game is getting very heated. Jordyn is boasting about his owning of Henry’s queen. Jordyn moves his queen up and is ready to take a pawn, but Henry takes Jordyn’s pawn instead! He is stumped. Henry takes Jordyn’s queen. Henry continues to block several of Jordyn’s pawns.
It appears that Jordyn has a pawn next to Henry’s king. Henry then proceeds to take it with a rook! Another bishop is taken by Henry. Henry has once again gotten close to Jordyn’s king.
Are you on the edge of your seat? If you want to know what happened, ask Henry or Jordyn in the hall at school.
