On May 17th, I participated in the AIDS walk in Central Park with several members of the Friends Seminary GSA. There was an incredible amount of people there, and it was clear that every one of them was so passionate and dedicated to the cause. The walk was 10k (about 6 miles). It was an extremely humid day, but the overwhelming feeling of community and drive motivated everyone to walk. It really did seem like a community–we were all walking together, for the same cause. It was so chilling to see people with signs in memory of family members of friends who had died of AIDS, but so inspiring to see how dedicated and driven the walkers were to defeat AIDS. Participating in the AIDS walk was such an inspiring and amazing service experience, and I will definitely be doing the walk next year!
