Paper Waste (by Kyra Kwok)

Recently, the 2nd Graders in class 2M conducted an experiment to see how much paper the school wastes. They collected paper from three printers every Thursday for five weeks. They found that 2,500 pieces of paper were wasted, which is five reams of paper.

103 of those 25,000 pieces of paper were the exact same picture of Iggy Azalea!

On average, 830 pieces of paper are wasted per printer, and there are approximately 100 printers in the school. We estimate that over a five week period, over 83,000 pieces of paper are wasted in the school which is approximately 165 reams of paper and approximately $1,300.000 wasted (one ream is 8.00). Overall, Friends is wasting a lot of money and paper!

The second graders have been using the paper that was wasted to make their own paper by mashing it up into a pulp to use. That paper will be used in their classroom, and they will be giving some to the art department.

They suggest that we think carefully before printing, pay attention to where we are printing, and always print double sided.
