Kopila Valley School

A few days ago we went to Maggie’s Kopila Valley School. The kids were all really nice in welcoming us. The kids wear uniforms which they were proud of. The uniforms also gave jobs to woman who sewed them.

I, Sigourney was in 9th grade because 8th grade was finished with school after their big exams.. I, Odessa went to the 5th grade. But most of the girls 9 and 10 years old were in third grade because they hadn’t been in school at a young age. There were 15 and 16 year olds in 9th grade.
They had assembly like we do but their building and classrooms were very different. The building was designed to be temporary, so it wasn’t built as well as it could have been. For instance, during English class a bird fell through the roof onto my desk?. The walls weren’t entirely closed to let air thru and they had a tin roof which students said was very loud when it rained.  The new school being built is going to be better designed and much more permanent.

They only had six classes a day rather than 8 and at lunch most of the kids ate lunch sitting on the ground. Everyone in Nepal eats with their right hand, they don’y use utensils. When we were in Kopila, we also ate with our hands which was fun and new. But in all going to the new school was fun and was an interesting experience.

  1. Thank you, Odessa and Sigourney for your blogs while you have traveled on this amazing adventure to Nepal. In our hearts, Norris and Doe feel it will be sad to say good-bye to ALL at Kapola Valley School and to Maggie.
We send our love and safe travels from Vero. :>) :>)

  2. It has been great to follow along your journey. Perhaps, Pankti and Teri might allow you to share a few words during Meeting at school when we return. I know others would be interested in hearing about Maggie and your visit to the school.
