Every November, Lower School Art and Shop students participate in an all-school tradition decorating bags for God’s Love We Deliver. Friends Seminary has a rich, more than 35-year relationship with this organization; one that began when art teacher John Jones and a group of 20 Kindergarten students first decorated bags as an act of service and care.
What started small has grown into a beloved community-wide project. Today, students, alumni, parents, caregivers, faculty, and administrators all join in this creative effort. For two weeks, the decorated bags are displayed across the Meetinghouse, transforming the space into an installation of joy, color, and compassion.
The completed bags are then delivered to God’s Love We Deliver, where they accompany meals going to individuals who are homebound. This meaningful tradition connects our students to the wider NYC community and reflects our Quaker values of service, stewardship, and seeing the Light in all people.
